The George Washington University Student Chapter will inaugurate the National George Washington Religious Freedom Moot Court Competition on January 26-27, 2007. While many moot court competitions involve questions of constitutional law or focus on various aspects of the First Amendment, the National Religious Freedom Moot Court will be the first specifically dedicated to religious freedom. The competition will focus on a current controversy involving the rights of religiously oriented student organizations at state affiliated law schools.
We think this Moot Court fills an important niche, and we look forward to it becoming a yearly event that schools and teams arrange their competition schedules to participate in. Our hope is that this competition will spur a lifelong interest in religious freedom issues in those students who participate and that it will also provide meaningful networking opportunities. Although the entry deadline has already passed, we encourage you to visit the website, www.religiousfreedommootcourt.org, to learn more and begin planning for next year! |
