Cross-Organizational Service « Back to Front Page

The Nebraska Student Chapter has engaged in a few activities this year that have proven very successful in helping us promote fairness and virtue through service. Particularly, we have tried to work closely with other Christian-based and service-oriented clubs at the law school to establish our presence as an organization that truly desires to make a difference.

One example of a current project we are working on is Project Angel Tree. This project benefits children by providing Christmas gifts that they and their families would otherwise be unable to afford. Many of these gifts are what we would consider basic necessities like food and clothing. We are doing this service project as a joint effort with the Christian Legal Society. This gives us an opportunity to provide meaningful service for those in need as well as an opportunity to dispel misconceptions held by those with whom we work.

During Fall Semester we also organized a blood drive with the local blood bank. We also try to get our name out and serve by being involved in the established organizations at the college of law. Most recognized organizations are required to do service projects and typically they are looking for additional help, so it is an excellent chance to co-sponsor an event or just provide needed manpower. This interaction has allowed our members to provide service and has given us opportunities to be examples of what our organization promotes. We have found that it really is important to remember that when we are in the service of our fellow men we are only in the service of our God.
