David J. Bertoch

David Bertoch is Lead Counsel for ExxonMobil’s Iraq West Qurna Phase I project.  He was appointed to this position in December 2009 and advises senior management on legal matters for Iraq.  Mr. Bertoch has been a member of the ExxonMobil Law Department since June, 1987 where he began his career in the Litigation section handling environmental claims.  Since 1995 he has been serving as a transactional attorney in the Upstream division of the Law Department including assignments as Lead Counsel for ExxonMobil’s Sakhalin-1 Project in Russia (1995-2005), ExxonMobil’s new business ventures in Kuwait (2005-2009), Mexico (2008-2009) and Alaska Gas Development (2009) before being assigned to the Iraq portfolio.

Mr. Bertoch received his J.D. degree from Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School in 1985 and served as law clerk from 1985-1987 to the Hon. Robert E. Bakes, former Chief Justice of the Idaho Supreme Court.  He is a member of the Texas and Utah bars and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.  Mr. Bertoch received his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Brigham Young University in 1982.  He and his wife Stacey are parents of four wonderful children and grandparents of a very active 2-year old grandson.
